Why Are We Buried Separately? September 28, 2011

Categories: My Thoughts

CoffinI was driving to work taking a different route.  Kristie Galvani told me that taking the Southern Parkway to Wellwood Avenue was much faster than taking the Long Island Expressway, so I decided to give it a try.

I got off at Wellwood and I passed a slew of cemeteries.  At first, I passed a Christian cemetery.  Then I passed a Jewish cemetery.  After that, I passed a Veteran’s cemetery.  I started to think about our burial rituals.  Each religion, each culture has different rituals to help pass the deceased to another place.

In the US, we are so intermixed.  So many of us are interracially married, have interfaith marriages or even homosexual marriages, so why do we insist on burying our friends and neighbors in different cemeteries?

I know I may be a little controversial here, but if we are all equal, then shouldn’t we be placed together as one people.  We can still have our burial rituals at the grave side. But would it be so bad to be buried together?

On Returning A Pen… September 27, 2011

Categories: Business,My Thoughts

Fountain PenI was at a meeting in NYC and I realized I didn’t have paper or a pen.  A little embarrassed, I asked the secretary of the person I was meeting with if she had writing utensils.

She took me to the conference room, sat me down and ran quickly out the door to get me the stuff I requested.  She came back with a few sheets of plain white paper and a nice writing pen.

After the meeting was over, I felt a dilemma.  Do I leave the pen and paper on the table and let my new business prospects see I forgot to bring materials for notes?  Or should I just pocket the paper and pen and call it a day?

I pocketed the paper and pen.

That afternoon, back in my office, I had a meeting with a woman who forgot to bring a pen.  You can borrow one of mine, I told her.  As I went to select which pen to lend her the thought that I would never see this pen again crossed my mind.  I guess I should give her a pen that I don’t care if she doesn’t return.

After the meeting was over, I walked her to the door and came back into my office.  Do you know what was sitting on my desk?  The pen she borrowed.  Now I felt really bad that I didn’t leave the pen at my first appointment.

What would you do?

Looking to Make a Move? Try Trulia September 26, 2011

Categories: Social Media

Recently, I came across an interactive website that I found quite interesting.  I’m thinking (dreaming) about buying an office in Manhattan or one of the five boroughs so I did a search and found Trulia.com.

The app for the iPad or iPhone works much better than the website but they both have the same information. You tell the site where you are interested in relocating and the site does the rest.  With one click, you will see an area with lots of price tags.

I’ve been looking for an apartment in Long Island City.  When I went to the site, I typed in Long Island City and I got a list of apartments, houses and stores to purchase. When I clicked on the dollar sign, I was taken to another window which showed me what the apartment or house looked like. I was able to see every room before picking up the phone to call the owner.  What a big help when you are looking to buy something.  It really helps you weed out the “trash!”

I highly recommend this site if you are thinking about relocating to another area.  Happy searching!
