Keeping a Memory Alive by Kristie Galvani January 19, 2012

Categories: Guest Blog,Kristie's Korner

I am fortunate enough to have family support to help me watch my son during the week. My mother and my mother-in-law each watch him two days a week. When Jack was first born, Hilary allowed me to work from home for the one remaining day, which was great. However, when he turned one I decided it was getting a little hard to work from home and it would be good for him to be around other kids so I started exploring day care options. I was very fortunate to stumble upon the Giggle Patch, http://www.thegigglepatch.com, located in Wantagh, New York. My son loves this in-home day care. He gets excited to go every week and I feel very comfortable knowing that the staff treats my child just like family would.

I recently received an email from the day care owner, Sandi that made me realize how incredibly special she was. Sandi’s teenage daughter was killed while crossing Sunrise Highway just a little more than a year ago. The fact that she continues to provide so much love to her family and other families is incredible. I wanted to share something good that is being done in the wake of this tragedy.

Sandi’s daughter Brittany, an artist and musician, was special to many and a group of her close friends Jon, Alex, and Dan sought to ease their pain through writing poems and songs in her memory.  What began as a very informal and tumultuous beginning quickly became much more serious when Alex’s father, record producer/songwriter, Russ DeSalvo (Carlos Santana, Celine Dion) heard the group playing together and asked them to record a cover song at his studio. Out of this spawned the band, “ Count To Ten.” Over the past month, Count To Ten has aligned with New York-based independent record label, Airgo Musi and are in the process of launching a grassroots marketing campaign around Count To Ten’s holiday single, “The Only Gift I Need Tonight.”

I know it’s past the Holidays but please pass around the music video, http://www.youtube.com/airgomusic or check out the band’s website at http://counttotenmusic.com. Brittany, who was an avid music lover herself, would no doubt appreciate the effort that these young men are exerting to keep her memory alive.
