At HJMT We Give Back…

I don’t want to sound self-serving but I will tell you something… one of the most special things about the staff at HJMT is that they consistently give back to the community.

For starters, we have a scholarship program for a high school senior. The scholarship goes to a student who wants to have a career in public relations. We started the program this year in one school and plan to branch out to many of the schools around Long Island.

Our agency also sponsors the Long Beach Little League team and many other local community activities, especially in Long Beach because that’s where we got our start.

In addition to this, each individual is involved with a charity as well.

Vice President, Lori Alexy is on the Board of Directors at Literacy Nassau. Literacy Nassau is a non profit organization that opens doors to opportunity and success for adults in our communities who seek help with reading, writing or speaking English.

Lisa Gordon, Supervisor and Lead Staff Member in Rochester, volunteered this past year for Relay for Life in Fairport. Relay for Life is a program of the American Cancer Society and it raises money to find a cure for cancer. As part of her volunteer work, she set up a twitter page @FportRelay4Life and sent out press materials. As a result, the following press in Rochester will cover the story:
• D&C
• YNN
• 1180 WHAM, 100.5 The Drive, 95.1 The Fox, 106.7 KISS-FM, 1280 WHTK & FM 107.3
• Rochester Business Journal
• Fairport Post
• WHEC Channel 10, Rochester In Focus
• WROC Channel 8

Kristie Galvani, Senior VP of the firm, was involved in many different charities including “Go Red for Women,” a campaign from the American Heart Association.

Ellen Heydt, Project Manager, also gets involved with different charities. Once we completed a job for the School Business Partnership of LI, Ellen decided on her own to continue to get involved with the group because of her commitment to the community in which she lives.

Jillian Beroza, Art Director, strives to contribute to local communities and volunteer her time to organizations. She served as a pro-bono Art Director at Oswego Industries where she designed public service brochures and signage for people with developmental disabilities. She also created websites and brochures for the Long Island Bombers, a blind and visually impaired baseball team and her local synagogue. For various school districts on Long Island and in New York City, she has volunteered her time to create sets and costumes for school plays and even designed yearbooks. When not using her design skills, she volunteers her time to the Italian Genealogy Group, by researching and transcribing vital records for the public to access.

And as for me, well it’s a long list but here goes:
• Board Member of Long Island Forum for Technology
• Communications Chair for the Entrepreneurs’ Organization in NYC
• Council Member of the Commerce and Industry Council part of LIJ-Northshore University Hospital
• Vice President of my local synagogue
• Volunteer Writer for BlogCritics.org
• And more…

So you see that we all give back both as a company and as individuals and you know what, that’s important to me.

How do you give back?
