Anniversary Post: I Wrote A Book About Social Media! April 12, 2013

What a long road! I started to write the book, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media but were afraid to ask…” in October 2008. It took nearly nine months to write, research, edit and publish but it was worth every minute!

I tell everyone it was like going through labor. During the first three months, there was so much research and study before the actual writing began, but I had utter excitement and anticipation. The second tri-mester was a little easier. The research was over and I wrote the book. The editing came next in full swing. And, the last tri-mester was the hardest because we had to check facts, look through the book with a fine tooth comb and the editing seemed brutal!

“Hey Hil, your book is on Amazon,” said Lori Alexy with excitement in the next office next to mine. I was working on some volunteer work for the Entrepreneurs Organization. (I just became the Communication’s Chair and the work has been piling on!)

“Oh, wow, Hil, it’s on Barnes & Noble.com too,” she shouted!

Lori instant messaged me with the links. “It looks great,” she said.

I stopped everything and took a peek. There it was, my first book, on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. How exciting! I had such a rush of adrenaline. All I wanted to do was to tell everyone I knew. And that’s what I started to do…

(Hey, thanks to all of you out there who have supported me through the process. I really appreciate it! With love, Hilary)

I Was A Guest On Donna Drake’s Live It Up! Show… April 11, 2013

Categories: My Agency

I’ve known Donna Drake for several years.  I don’t remember when we met, but I feel like I’ve known her a long time!

The other day, I was a guest on her television show, Live it Up!. As I drove to Bohemia, I didn’t know what to expect. I found the studio with ease and parked in the back lot. Elizabeth Montoya, my executive assistant, came with me for morale support.

I walked in to the studio and was greeted by her staff. They welcomed me and told me to have a seat in the green room where there were more bananas, cookies and water than I could count! One of the guys asked me to fill out an information package about three things that I want to make sure we touch upon during the interview. As I was writing, guests came in and out.  Some appeared on the set and others were just coming in to be interviewed.

I patiently waited, but not too long before I was called in for makeup.  After that, I was miked up and told it was my turn to be interviewed.  Donna was sitting in her chair ready for the interview.  She greeted me with a big smile and hug.  I totally felt at ease. She explained that the show had a live feed on Facebook and after that, she told me to just look at her and not at the camera.

Before I knew it, the interview was over.  We talked about social media, my blog, the blogtalk radio show and about how I have a ton of free offers on www.hjmt.com.  We continued the conversation for a little while after the show ended and I walked out of the studio with a big smile on my face.  Donna’s show is the real deal.  It airs on CBS and WLNY at 6 am on Saturday mornings.  She does it professionally and puts the guest at ease.  I’ve recommended Donna’s show to all of my clients and I recommend it to you!

The one thing I left at the studio was my signed autograph of Donna!
