Product Review: Fanny Wang Headphones

I use my headphones for almost everything – working out, running on the boardwalk and even sometimes sitting at my desk at work. I find that music helps keep me motivated and in the moment.

When I had the opportunity to review the new Fanny Wang On Ear headphones, I was thrilled. When the box came in, it was huge. I was surprised that such a mid-sized headset would be enclosed in a box that size!

Book Review: Curation Nation

There was a time when the only curator was a person who selected artwork or hard-to-find artifacts for an art gallery or a museum. Not any more. Today, according to author, Steven Rosenbaum, founder and CEO of Magnify.net, everyone is a curator. In his book, “Curation Nation,” you get a sense of how curation evolved.

From the beginning when Reader’s Digest was developed, to the recent explosion of the singer, Susan Boyle, the reader realizes that curation has been in use for a long time. When there were only three major stations in this country, the news editors curated the content that viewers were able to receive. However, through the years, things have changed and within recent years, the power of curation has been put in the hands of the consumer. We now tend to lean on our neighbor, our friends, our local bloggers and online resources for our information.

Product Review: Hard Candy’s iPad Cases

When I first bought my iPad, I purchased the Apple case to go along with it. I had the case for a while but was very unhappy with it because it always looked dirty and I was embarrassed to use it during new business presentations.

So, I found another case online at Rue La La. I bought a Terrida leather case that looked very professional but was totally impractical. Every time I tried to use the iPad, I had to take it out of the case completely, especially when I needed to plug it into a socket. I think I paid more than $75 for the case that I am now unhappy with.

Book Review: Engage by Brian Solis

If you didn’t think there was a structured university to learn all about social media, you are wrong. After reading the book, Engage, The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web, by Brian Solis with a forward by Ashton Kutcher, you will have your Master’s degree!

What I loved about the book is that it focuses on sociology and anthropology and how our world is changing with the use of social media.

The World’s Greatest Sales Man by Tim Healy

He only says hello in the morning and goodbye in the evening. He will never waste time talking to people who can’t buy a car from him.

He understood the power of referrals and made sure everyone knew he sold cars. While many might not agree with his approach – he ended up selling 13,001 cars in 15 years.

App Review: Monster Free Apps

Did you know that every day, fee-based iPhone apps become available for free to consumers?

I didn’t know that. But according to the new app, Monster Free Apps, developers make apps free for a day or even a week to expand their consumer base and get some positive reviews. The positive reviews help them better sell the app when it comes time to charge a fee.

Manny Coats, the co-founder of Monster Free Apps, said that many people don’t know about these apps because there is no way to spread the word to consumers. The buyer has to be online at just the right time to get in on the deal. With Monster Free Apps, consumers no longer need to search for these freebies. The app pushes a free (paid) app to your iPhone every day.

App Review: fone: Chat & Call for Facebook

When I read about the new Facebook Messenger App for the iPhone, I was excited. When I downloaded the app, I wasn’t so excited. I tried to download it from iTunes and was having trouble opening it on my iPhone, which has never happened before. When I finally got it working, I found it to be a valuable tool to reach friends and business associates in real time.

The new app has the potential to replace text messaging. You don’t need phone numbers logged into your phone. Instead, you log onto Facebook and all your contacts that are online can chat with you in writing and through VoIP.

Product Review: Hard Candy for MacBook Air

I love accessories for my new 11” MacBook Air. So when I learned that Hard Candy was looking for a blogger to review their new products, I jumped. They sent me two cases to review for the MacBook Air.

The first case was a Candy Convertible Air, which comes in both 11” and 13” for the MacBook Air. It also comes in two chic colors – Red or Black. I got the red one and it is hot! The color is bright and the Hard Candy logo is in silver on the bottom of the case. The case fits snugly and securely around the MacBook Air and the material is a smooth faux-nubuck.

Book Review: When You Lie About Your Age, The Terrorists Win by Carol Leifer

I hate the title. But once I got past that, I loved the book, When You Lie About Your Age, The Terrorists Win: Reflections On Looking In The Mirror, by Carol Leifer.

Leifer is more than 50 and the book is a series of vignettes about her life during middle age. In some of the chapters — which are exclusive to the others and in no chronological order — she’s in her 40s, while in others she’s in her 50s. Leifer talks about things that all of us “middle-agers” can relate to, getting older with all our aches to our self-realization.

Music Review: Broken Bells – Meyrin Fields EP

I love The Shins. Their releases are catchy and simply make me feel good. So when I heard that James Mercer, who is the lead vocalist and guitarist for The Shins, was in a new band called Broken Bells, I got excited. Artist-producer, Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) is Mercer’s other half. The duo makes up the Broken Bells.
