Almost Missing the Flight And Other Tales…

Who would have thought that there would be two airports in Ft. Lauderdale?

I was in my rent a car with my daughter heading back to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. I plugged in the airport in the GPS and end up at the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport.

“This doesn’t look right!” I said.

“No, it’s not right,” she said.

So, we turned around and headed toward I95 to 595 to the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport. The plane was leaving at 4:15 pm and it was already 3:15 and we were nearly 10 minutes away. I floored the car and weaved in and out of traffic to get to the airport.

We dropped off the rent a car and raced for the shuttle bus to take us to the terminal. Of course, we were the last stop on the shuttle.

“Where are the boarding passes?” my daughter asked.

“Here they are….” I said.

“These are the wrong ones…. Didn’t you print it out?”

“Ooops…..”

As we stood on a long line to get our boarding passes, I can see the plane taking off without us, except I knew that my sister and her daughters were on the same flight and she would say something to the flight attendant if we didn’t make it…

We got on the plane with time to spare. There was one seat next to me and my sister and her daughters sat behind us. My sister’s husband sat behind them. When a man came to sit beside us, I asked him if he would switch seats with my brother in law and he had no problem with that. Like in a “Larry David Show” episode, my brother in law sat in the seat next to me, stretched out his legs and shook his head.

“No, I’m going to stay in my old seat. There’s more legroom,” he said.

We all looked at him and shook our heads. Are we ever going to get home?
