Bleachers at Madison Square Garden

Jack and Bleachers

I’m still floating. The other night, I watched Bleachers light up Madison Square Garden, and I honestly don’t know if my heart has fully come back down to earth yet. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know I’m a die-hard Jack Antonoff fan. We’ve seen him and the band play almost every time they come through New York. His music has woven itself into my everyday life, and last night reminded me exactly why.

From an Empty Room to a Sold-Out Garden

Let me take you back for a second. Years ago, we caught a Bleachers show at the Tilles Center, and the place was practically empty. I’m talking to nearly no one in the audience. And there I was, the only “crazy” person dancing in my seat and belting out every single lyric. I didn’t care. I loved the music too much to sit still.

Fast forward to last night, and what a difference. I stood among thousands of people who knew every word to every song, just like me. The energy in that room was electric. There’s something so special about being part of a crowd that loves the same music you’ve loved for years. It felt like a giant family reunion, and I never wanted it to end.

The Music That Keeps Me Moving

Jack and Bleachers 2

Here’s a little secret about why Bleachers means so much to me. When I run, swim, or bike, their songs are almost always playing in my ears. The upbeat tracks push me forward and lift my mood on even the toughest days. So getting to hear those same songs live, surrounded by thousands of fans, hit me right in the heart.

The Setlist That Stole the Show

The band opened with a gorgeous cover of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” and right away I knew this night was going to be something else. From there, they rolled through an incredible mix of old favorites and newer gems:

  • Sideways
  • The Van
  • Modern Girl
  • Jesus Is Dead
  • Wild Heart
  • Everybody Lost Somebody
  • Goodmorning
  • Dirty Wedding Dress
  • We Should Talk
  • Chinatown (one of my all-time favorites!)
  • Don’t Go Dark
  • You and Forever (my new obsession, it’s STILL playing in my head)
  • 91
  • Isimo
  • Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call
  • Take You Out Tonight
  • How Dare You Want More
  • Rollercoaster (the early song that made me fall in love with this band)
  • Tiny Moves
  • Don’t Take the Money
  • Upstairs at Els
  • I Wanna Get Better (another early favorite)
  • Stop Making This Hurt

Hearing “Rollercoaster” took me straight back to when I first discovered Bleachers. That song started it all for me. And “Chinatown” still gives me chills every time. But “You and Forever” might be my brand-new favorite. I cannot stop humming it.

The Moment That Made Me Tear Up

Jack piano

I’ll be honest with you. There was a point during the show where I almost cried. Jack’s music means that much to me, and standing in that arena, surrounded by all that love and sound, was overwhelming in the best possible way.

Then came the highlight of the whole night. Jack’s father walked on stage and played alongside his son. Watching that father-son moment unfold in front of thousands of people was pure magic. It was tender, joyful, and so genuine. I had goosebumps.

Swaying Through the Pain

Here’s the personal part. My knee has been giving me serious trouble. I need a total knee replacement, and the MISHA implant I tried just didn’t work for me. So this is my new reality for now. Normally, I’d be jumping up and down and dancing my heart out at a Bleachers show. Last night, I couldn’t do that.

But you know what? I refused to sit down. My knee was killing me, yet I swayed with every song, soaking in every note. Nothing was going to keep me from being fully present for this one.

Oh, and a quick win for the night: we had seats off to the side, but we managed to move down to some amazing spots. Talk about a happy upgrade.

Until Next Time, Jack

The other night was everything I hoped for and more. If you ever get the chance to see Bleachers live, do not hesitate. Jack Antonoff and his band put on a show that fills your heart, lifts your spirit, and reminds you why live music is so powerful.

I’ll be replaying “You and Forever” on my next run, smiling the whole way. Thank you, Jack, for another unforgettable night.
