Does Social Networking = Business?

The other day, I posted on my status that my arms were hurting because I lift weights.  One of my Facebook friends asked me on “my wall,” if by posting random status updates I get any business leads.

I didn’t answer back on “my wall.”  I decided to send him a direct message instead. I wrote, I have received dozens and dozens of inquiries and most of them became clients.

People ask me why?  Think about it a moment.  Wouldn’t you rather do business with someone you know and respect than someone you don’t know?

Social networking enables you to get to know people who you may have met at a networking event but only knew superficially.  Now you have the opportunity to get to know what the contact likes and dislikes.  You also get a sense of what you have in common.

The other day, I got an email from a Facebook friend that we “must get together.”  He told me that we had a lot in common — liking Madonna, True Blood, etc.

When you have something in common with other people, you feel more comfortable and you want to do business with them!
