Music Review: Heart/Journey Concert at the Coliseum

A few years back, when Angela Ruggiero, a former HJMT Account Executive, told me that she loved Journey I was shocked. Journey was a band of the 80’s and 90’s. I couldn’t believe that she liked them. When I was growing up, I didn’t like them. I thought of them as a “B” band.

When Allie Herzog, another former HJMT account person, and I went to Las Vegas last year, we decided to buy tickets to the Journey concert. Journey was the only band playing and I thought it would be fun. After the concert, I was hooked. “Why didn’t I like Journey years ago?”

So when Journey announced that there was a show at the Nassau Coliseum, I asked my son if he wanted to go with me. I knew he liked a few of the songs and knew he had never been to a concert before, so I thought it would be fun.

Tonight Heart warmed up for Journey. I didn’t think I would know any of the Heart songs and it turned out, I knew them all! The highlight of the show is when they sang The Who song, “Reign O’er Me.” The Ann Wilson belted out the song and the rendition was superb!

When Journey came on around 8:45 pm, they too sang all their favorites and a few new songs which were pretty good as well. Arnel Pineda, the band’s latest lead singer sounds just like Steve Perry. His energy and vibrance on stage really sets him apart from the rest of the band. The musical talents of the rest of the band were superb.

The highlight of the night was when the band played, “Don’t Stop Believing…” There wasn’t one person in his/her seat! Everyone sang along, including my son. And for his first concert ever, he had a good time!

It was a lot of fun and a great show….
