KA at the MGM Grand Is A Grand Show!

When I saw a posting on the Blogworld web site saying that Cirque du Soleil was offering press passes to bloggers who attend BLOGWORLD ’09, I jumped at the opportunity. The catch, Cirque du Soleil wanted bloggers to write about the performance that they saw.

I didn’t have a problem with that. I thought it was a wonderful opportunity to see one of their shows and tell my friends about it.

I wrote to their PR person and she offered me a ticket to KA at the MGM Grand. When I went to pick up my press pass, I was handed a beautiful glossy press kit with every little detail about the performance, the actors, the sets and the history of Cirque Du Soleil. The only thing it didn’t tell me was how long the production lasted, which I found interesting.

When I walked into the theatre, I said “wow” out loud, even though I was alone. I was amazed at the set. It was magnificent. It was big and bold. It offered lots of chances for the cast of KA to swing, which is one among many of the things the cast does well.

The Cirque du Soleil performers never cease to amaze me. They are incredible athletes that do things that I could never see myself doing (or my friends for that matter…) They also play their parts so well.

In a nutshell, KA is about twins, a boy and girl, who were separated by a violent attack that finds them taking journeys on their own. They eventually find their way back to each other, but the meat of the production is when they are apart.

I wondered what the word “KA” meant. According to the press kit, it comes from the ancient Egyptian belief that “ka” is an invisible spiritual duplicate of the body that companies every human being throughout his life and into the next.

In any event, the show is incredible. It is dramatic, provokes emotion and is high energy. The music adds to the energy and excitement as well…. When you leave the theatre, you are definitely going to find yourself in deep thought!

So, the next time you are in Vegas, consider purchasing tickets for KA. I thought it was worth it and I would certainly go back, pay full price and see it again!
