Mardi Gras in May?

The EO (Entrepreneurs Organization) Global Leadership Conference (GLC) was held this year in New Orleans. Since I am the incoming chair of External Communications, I was invited to attend.

The event kicked off with some boring speeches and then “Rock Star” Awards, which, by the way, were given out by Ace Frehley of KISS. The NYC Chapter received “Rock Star” status.

After the awards, there was a cocktail party at the Ritz Carlton, including chafing dishes and hors d’eourvres. For the first time, I tasted “Turduckin,” (turkey/duck/chicken stuffed in one). The thought of eating “Turduckin” didn’t appeal to me but I was so hungry, I decided to taste it.

I wouldn’t say, “Mmmmm, delicious….” but at least it was edible. I had this incredible burning sensation burning down my throat from all the canjun food.

At 10:30 pm, I heard drumming. It sounded like a marching band. What could that be? Fran came running over to me, “It’s a marching band and we need to follow it.”

That was the last time I saw Fran. The next thing I knew, I was following a marching band down Burbon Street in New Orleans with 500 entrepreneurs besides me. Everyone on the street was taking photos of us. There were hundreds of people all over the place interested to know what was going on.

We marched and we marched. I didn’t know where we were going, nor did I know where my New York Chapter was. I did meet some incredible folks from Western New York, Arizona, Vancouver and London.

When we got to the final destination, I saw Matt, outgoing NYC Chapter President. “Here’s a drink from you,” he said and handed me a Hurricane (which apparently is the drink of choice in New Orleans).

I met the most incredbile people. It felt so good surrounded by good people from across the world.
