My Top Five TV Shows To Watch

Since COVID-19 pandemic has us on lockdown in our homes for another few weeks, it’s nice to put your phone down and take a short escape from the realities of our “pause” by watching a little TV. Here are my top five picks to watch:

My top picks are:

Survivor (CBS) – I’ve been watching the show since its inception. I’m a junkie when it comes to Survivor, except don’t ask me any trivia questions because once the episode is over, I have no recollection of it. Yes, the challenges are similar each week and yes, each week some contestants go to tribal council where someone gets voted off. But, it’s still exciting. It is a game of psychology, sociology, and interpersonal relations. I’m fascinated by the way contestants form alliances and then end up backstabbing them when things get tough. This season is particularly interesting because many of the former winners are back on the show competing against each other.

Ozark (Netflix) – If you want to sit on the edge of your seat and have your heartbeat out of your chest, this one is for you! It’s the story of Wendy (played by Laura Linney) and Marty Byrde (played by Jason Bateman), a couple and their family who come from Chicago and move to the Ozarks because their money-laundering scheme went bad. They are laundering money for the Mexican Cartel and this third season is filled with suspense. If you haven’t watched season 1 and 2 yet, binge watch. The series is on Netflix and the acting is excellent.

Blacklist (NBC) – This show has been one of my favorites from the start in 2013. It follows Raymond Reddington (James Spader), a former U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal, who voluntarily surrenders to the FBI after escaping capture for decades. In return for no jail time, Reddington provides intel on blacklisters to Elizabeth Keen (played by Megan Boone). Each week, a special task force, in which Elizabeth is part, seeks out criminals provided by Reddington. Although half the time, I don’t understand or know what’s going on, the show is enticing and keeps my interest because it’s fast-paced and action-packed.

The Americans (FX) – Although The Americans are no longer airing new shows, it’s worth sinking your teeth into by finding it online and starting from the first episode. The Americans is an action-packed drama about two KGB spies posing as Americans in Washington D.C. during the Reagan era. Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) have an arranged marriage but as time goes by, they are a perfect match and have two children who think they are Americans until they find out otherwise in subsequent episodes. This is another drama that will keep you on your edge and will help you forget everything other than what is happening on the screen. The actors are superb!

Kidding (Showtime) – Jim Carey stars as Mr. Jeff Pickles, a children’s TV star. Similar, almost identical to Mr. Rodgers, Mr. Pickles is a hero to children all over the world. The show is deep and although labeled a comedy, it has some very dark sides to it. After Jeff Pickles, twin son died in a major car crash, the Pickles family was never the same. This is a story about Jeff Pickles and his family. As you view this, the later episodes get much better. It’s a wonderful show and worth watching!
