On Kayaking…

I’ve passed by signs for Empire Kayaking for a long time now and never really thought about going kayaking until my staff retreat last month. I decided to do something active with my staff and thought that Kayaking would be perfect.

One sunny day in July, we took out three two seated kayaks and paddled our way through the swamps.  We passed magnificent houses right on the water, a baseball field and Long Beach High School. It was a great day.  So great that I couldn’t wait to go back.

When my son came home from camp, I asked him to go with me and we rented a kayak for two. He sat in the front, I sat in the back. We passed all the same things I passed the first time, but this was a different experience.  Although I loved the kayaking and the feeling of peacefulness on the water, the best part was the bonding experience with my 13 year old son.

When you kayak, it’s like your meditating.  Although it is hard work, especially when there are strong currents, it is so relaxing.  The people at Empire Kayak are terrific.  They are friendly, personable and reasonably priced.  They teach you the basic techniques of kayaking and let you go…

Have you ever gone kayaking?  Tell me about an experience you had where you felt totally relaxed.

Hilary, try the Nissequogue River kayak trip. My wife and I did it a few days ago in a two seater kayak. We rented the kayak here https://www.canoerentals.com/ It was excellent.
