Should I Justify My Love?

I love Madonna. I loved her back in the early 80’s and I still love her music today. So, when I read the recent article written by Emily Nussbaum for New York Magazine (August 3, 2009 issue), I was disturbed. Ms. Nussbaum talks about her dissapointment with the Madonna of 2009.

According to the article, Ms. Nussbaum was a big Madonna fan in the early 80’s. She followed her career and her music and was even a Madonna “wannabee.” But, as Madonna has aged, she lacks the same enthusiasm that she once had twenty years ago. Madonna is now a practicer of Kabbalah, an adopted mother and plastic surgery worshipper.

Personally, I don’t care about a performer or entertainer’s philosophy or lifestyle. I don’t care about what they do on their own time. And I don’t care if they feel they need to stay young looking.

What I care about is their music and their performance. Like Ms. Nussbaum, I was also a Madonna “wannabee.” Madonna set the style in the 80’s with leggings, short skirts and drop the shoulder shirts – actually very similar to the way the style is today!

I still adore and appreciate Madonna no matter what her politics or beliefs are. She is an amazing business woman who has built an empire and her music has evolved as she has. Now only if her tickets weren’t as much as they are, I would probably go see her every year.
