Personal trainer showing a client how to exerc...Image via Wikipedia

You know the type, they are always at the gym or they run 5 miles a day or they are on perpetual diets. They look fantastic, wear sexy clothes and feel great.

I’m not one of those people. I’ve always been thin. I remember when I graduated from High School I weighed 98 pounds. Breaking 100 was nearly impossible but as I got older, the pounds easily came on…

Now I’m 30 something… Okay, Okay, 40 something and the weight just caught up to me. I’m 15 pounds over my goal weight and I need to do something. So, I joined New York Sports Club.

I thought this was a relevant blog post for all of you out there trying to loose a few pounds. Let’s chat together and help motivate each other to do this…. I’m going to write about my workouts from time to time and would love your feedback or your experiences. So here goes…

My first day was on Friday. I sat with Dom, my new personal trainer, for nearly an hour talking about nutrition and exercise. Okay, I was now pumped and ready to work out. So we scheduled an appointment for the following day – Saturday.

I was at the gym at 8 am, ready to go. Before Dom came down to get me, he had told me the prior day that I should warm up on the treadmill, Precor machine or the stationery bike. I walked into the gym expecting to see the beautiful, thin people working out. But to my surprise, there were a lot of older people. People my parents age and older were there working out!

Dom came down to get me. We walked up the stairs to the weight room. He showed me the equipment that we were going to train on and I worked out for an hour. Okay, I thought, I can do this.

Everything seemed so hard, but I was determined to work it through. (I got to loose 15 pounds…. I kept thinking to myself.)

When the session was over, I came home and crashed. I was out for about 2 hours in a deep, deep sleep. When I woke up, I told myself that I can do this…

So Brittney Spears You Didn’t Do it Again! August 24, 2009

Categories: My Agency

19.jpgMy daughter and her friends caught the 7 am train into the city yesterday to go on the Britney Spears scavenger hunt only to find that the whole thing was disorganized and totally a waste of time.

Britney Spears, announced on Twitter, that the event would be an all day event in NYC.

The first clue that appeared on Twitter,
“I’m going to be hiding somewhere in Manhattan….HAHAHA!!! – Brit” 6:00 PM Aug 23rd from Tweetie

A few hours later…
“Let the games begin! My hiding spot is a guilty pleasure and I will be there at 6 PM…. Pass to @Z100NewYork – Britney”

Every hour Britney would tweet out a clue… but the clue was either irrelevant or downright dumb!

My daughter and her friends walked around the city all day from 8 am to 6 pm. They went to the M&M store four times and asked the manager if this was the place that Britney Spears would be and he told them “No.”

They went uptown to Dillians Candy Bar, Serendipity, Central Park, and other places. They finally ended up back where they started at the M&M store at 6 pm but were too late. More than two hundred people were there and the winners were already chosen. When Britney finally came out of a NYC tourist bus, she walked outside, greeted the winners and quickly went back into the bus.

The point here is, Britney Spears’ team and Z100 obviously didn’t know how to run a contest on Twitter. The premise was a good one but the execution failed. The contest should have been planned out with clues given at various locations. Instead it was done in a round about way that disappointed a lot of people!

Bloomberg Makes a Faux Pas…

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg opening ...Image via Wikipedia

I don’t know if you heard or read about this, but when Mayor Bloomberg was on his weekly show this past week, he made a comment that turned heads around, including mine! He said that “the last time I checked, pharmaceutical companies don’t make a lot of money, their executives don’t make a lot of money.”

Well, Mr. Bloomberg, I think to the common person, anyone who earns more than a million dollars earns an amazing salary! But the CEO’s of pharmaceutical companies are not earning a million a year. Miles White of Abbott Laboratories earns $33.3 million a year. Poor Jeffrey Kindler earns a mere $9.5 million. Mr. Bloomberg, you don’t think that’s a lot of money because you are the richest man in NY. The newspapers report that your fortune is in excess of $16 billion dollars.

I guess it’s all in where you are at. If you earn $50 million a year, then someone earning $20 million doesn’t earn that much…. Or on the flip side, if you earn $30,000 a year, someone who earns $15,000 doesn’t earn that much. It’s all in the numbers…

The funny thing about the story is that when one of Mayor Bloomberg’s aids came in to tell him that he was wrong, Mayor Bloomberg said, “some of them are making a decent amount, more than a decent amount of money….”

Your thoughts?

Interested in going on a scavenger hunt today in NYC? Follow Britney Spears on Twitter @britneyspears.

My daughter and her friends will be hunting Britney down by following her clues on Twitter.

Anyone who finds Britney will get two free first row tickets to her concert tonight and back stage passes. Not a bad deal huh? And what an innovative way to use Twitter too!

Where’s Shanequa? August 22, 2009

Hawaiian Green Sea TurtleImage via Wikipedia

My husband started to clean out the turtle tank with my son the other day and as he was moving stuff around, he noticed that Shanequa, the turtle, was missing.

“Do you know where Shanequa is?” he asked my son.

My son quickly got out of his bed and ran to the tank. He looked around and didn’t see the turtle either.

“How could the turtle escape from the tank?” he asked his father.

The two searched all around my son’s room looking for the turtle, because it was obviously not in it’s tank. My daughter who was in her room, refused to get out of bed because she thought the turtle may be walking around the house and she might step on it.
Just then, my husband decided to look in my son’s laundry basket and low and behold — there was Shanequa! She was in her shell scared to death. He gently picked her up and put her back in the tank.

Hopefully she doesn’t do that again….
