2020 The Lost Year

When 11:58 pm on December 31, 2019, we all had dreams that 2020 would be the year of luxurious vacations, time spent with family, outings with friends, and time to get serious with our professionals/careers/etc and make a decision on where we were going. Instead, COVID-19 robbed us all of 2020.

2020 The Lost Year

Not only did we lose nearly 220,000 people to date. These people were our friends and loved ones. They weren’t some random number that was picked out of a hat. These were our family members who cherished.

Although losing them was one of the worst effects of this virus, we also weren’t able to see our loved ones in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Our sense of travel was drastically diminished and if we had family in another state, forget about seeing them until we get the vaccine.

And what about those fabulous vacations that we all planned? All were put on hold. I surveyed my Facebook community and learned that I wasn’t alone. Most of my friends had vacations set, planned, and paid for. Weddings were either pushed forward or held with few in attendance. And most religious gatherings were put on hold or performed on Zoom.

No Business Connection

During 2020 “The Lost Year”, there were no business meetings in person. No networking. No in-person gatherings. We saw people through a computer screen. We attended webinars and virtual trade shows and business got done despite the fact that there were no in-person connections.

So What Do We Do?

Unfortunately, this pandemic will continue into the first quarter of 2021.

However, now is the time to do things that you may not otherwise do during a “normal year.”

Get out and cycle, kayak, hike, or swim in the freezing water.

Get out of your comfort zone and just enjoy the people you see on a daily basis. I never realized how much people mean to me and I’m grateful that I have a small bubble of people who I appreciate and enjoy spending time with…
