Oatmeal for Breakfast?

running group at the diner

Some people love eating breakfast. I struggle with it. I’ll usually have a protein bar before I start my day and follow that up after a workout with either oatmeal, a protein shake, or some yogurt. When I go to a diner, I really struggle.

I like to order eggs, but if I order over medium eggs, they always come out either too runny or too hard. If I order scrambled, they are often too dry. I always have such a dilemma.

At the Diner

The other day, I was at the diner with a few of my running buddies. Most of the folks ordered eggs or omelets. One of the people in the group ordered French Toast. (Yum, one of my favorites at a diner but since I’m watching what I eat, I opted not to get that.)

The waitress went around the table. There were 11 of us. As she went around, I heard people order the usual eggs, French toast, omelets, fruit cups, etc. Then, one of my buddies ordered oatmeal with blueberries and bananas.

Jodi, another friend in the group, looked at me. “Oatmeal?” she said, “zero points on WW.”

Hmmm… I thought. Okay, I’ll get that. Jodi ordered it too.

When the Food Arrived

The food arrived after some time. The three of us got the oatmeal after everyone else was served. I was curious about why it took so long. But, I didn’t say anything. We were all chatting, so it didn’t matter much anyway.

Then three huge bowls of oatmeal appeared. Didi got one, Jodi got hers and I got mine. It didn’t look so good. I had asked for brown sugar, but it took the waitress a long time to get it. By the time it came and I put it in my oatmeal, the oatmeal was a little cold.

The blueberries were frozen and the banana was fresh but had lots of dark spots so I didn’t eat it. The oatmeal was thick, very thick.

Once I got the brown sugar, I put a teaspoon in and stirred. I had a hard time going around the bowl, it was that thick.

When I looked over at Jodi and Didi, I noticed they didn’t eat the whole bowl either.

As we were leaving

We paid the bill and walked out the door. Jodi said to me, “you know I was thinking about putting the oatmeal on a spoon and fligging it out. But, I thought it would stick to the ceiling.”

I didn’t doubt her. I thought the same thing. That oatmeal was so thick. I think the next time I go to a diner, I’ll just get the french toast.
