Wearing a Mask at the Gym

Covid-19 cases are at an all time high right now. I just read that 1 in 1000 people died of COVID-19 and will continue to do so as this Pandemic gets worse. I think we are at a point where we are on overload and people just don’t want to comply because they are over it. BUT, IT’S NOT OVER!

Mask Wearing at the Gym

Since the Aquatic Center keeps shutting down due to COVID-19, I re-joined Lifetime Fitness. I know I said I would never go back there, but I had no choice. I want to swim and Lifetime has one of the few pools open.

They have signs all around saying it’s a state mandate to wear your mask all the time, except when you are swimming. But, it seems like the folks there can’t get the older folks (and some young folks too) to comply.

Anyway, in the locker room, I pick an aisle to put my clothes in a locker. I go to the end because it’s closest to the pool entrance. I see an older woman drying her hair. No mask.

“Would you please put your mask on?” I asked. I wasn’t rude. I was asking nicely.

“If you don’t like it,” she said, “go to a different aisle.”

I looked at her and gave her a long stare (from 6 feet away). “Well, I guess it couldn’t hurt to wear a mask,” she said and finally put it on.

After Christmas

A couple of days after Christmas, the locker room was packed and half the people wore masks and the rest didn’t, mostly older people. I don’t know if everyone is starting to feel overwhelmed by it all, but we need to keep it up just for a little while longer.

I’m optimistic and keep thinking, “we will all get the vaccine soon!” And, we will. Things will get better!
