I feel like most of us spend our lives waiting. We’re either waiting in a doctors office, waiting on line, waiting for business appointment or just waiting for the hair cutter to take us. I don’t really understand why most people don’t organize their time. If you make an appointment for 10 am, don’t you think you should keep it?
I try really hard to relax during these waiting periods but sometimes I just get anxious and I end up asking the receptionist how much longer I have to wait. She/He usually get angry and have an attitude and I slowly go back to my seat and wait.
But what is the protocol? I mean how long do you wait before you turn around and go home or go back to the office?
I decided to look it up on the Internet. There must be something on how long you should wait?
When I searched on Bing, the first topics to come up were:
- how long do I wait after having a miscarriage to try again?
- how long should I wait before re-dying my hair?
- how long should I wait before dating after a divorce?
That wasn’t quite what I was looking for. So, I checked out Yahoo Answers. Most people said they wait 20 minutes at the doctor‘s office and then leave. When I looked for other vendors and such, there was nothing there.
What about a business appointment? How long do you wait in the reception? Or, better yet, how long do you wait at a diner before your appointment shows up? Does 20 minutes to 30 minutes sound like a good rule of thumb?
There are many times that you don’t have a choice and have to wait, like for example, when you are sitting in traffic or waiting to go in for surgery at a hospital. Talking of hospitals, my husband had a minor surgery today and his doctor told him to be at the hospital at 5 am. 5am? Isn’t that crazy? But, we were there and what did we do? We waiting until 7:30 am to be taken in!
So what is it? Is it that we are a society that waiting is a common thing? Are we too overpopulated to accommodate everyone? I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
