Some restaurants charm you before you even sit down. Little Owl, tucked into the corner of a building in the West Village, is one of them. If the address feels familiar, that’s because it lives in the building made famous by the TV show Friends. Walking up to it felt like stepping into a piece of New York history, and that little thrill set the tone for the whole evening.
A Warm, Quaint Setting
Little Owl is small, intimate, and full of character. It’s the kind of spot where you settle in, breathe a little slower, and let the city hum fade away. The space feels personal, almost like dining in a friend’s beautifully run kitchen. It’s exactly what you hope for on a relaxed night out in the Village.
The Star of the Table: Pork Chop
The pork chop came highly recommended, so my husband ordered it without hesitation. He was rewarded handsomely. It arrived thick and beautifully cooked, and he generously offered me a taste. One bite and I understood the hype. It was fabulous, incredibly juicy, and packed with flavor. This is the dish people talk about, and now I know why.
My Pick: Salmon Over Polenta
I went with the salmon served over polenta with olives and zucchini. It felt distinctly Mediterranean, bright and savory with that lovely comfort the polenta brought to the plate. The olives added a salty depth, the zucchini kept things fresh, and the salmon tied it all together. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
We skipped the appetizers since neither of us was especially hungry, though I’ll admit the menu made it tempting. There were plenty of interesting options that had me eyeing the table next to us. Next time, for sure.
A Sweet Finish
We couldn’t leave without dessert, and the strawberry rhubarb tart called our names. It came with a scoop of vanilla gelato, and the pairing was perfect. Sweet, tart, creamy, and warm all at once. It was amazingly tasty and the ideal way to close out the meal.
Little Owl delivered exactly what I want from a West Village dinner: delicious food, a cozy setting, and a little extra magic from its famous address.
