Product Review: Licor 43

It’s funny when Licor 43 contacted me to see if I would try out the liqueur, I turned them down. They were marketing it for St. Patrick’s Day and showing it off in little beer mugs.   Since I’m not a big beer drinker, I didn’t want to try it.

They showed it as a mini beer using 1.5 oz of Licor 43 with a splash of Heavy Cream.

But their publicists were persistent and I figured why not? And you know what?  I’m really glad I tried it.

It you’re looking for a great tasting after dinner cordial or a supplement to a mixed drink, then consider Licor 43.  I know I will!

It has a bright yellow color and is made with citrus and fruit juice flavored with Vanilla and other spices. There are 43 ingredients in all.  (Hence it’s name – Licor 43.)

It tastes sugary sweet with a hint of vanilla and a slight kick at the end. You can almost taste a bit of rum in it. It’s smooth enough to have alone, in coffee with nothing else or add it to your favorite drink to kick it up a notch.  It is 62 proof.

I would definitely consider it a perfect liqueur drink after a big dinner.  I actually prefer dessert wine as opposed to dessert but after trying this, I would definitely order it. I would also highly suggest having it in a liquor cabinet.  You know it will be in mine!

Interestingly, Licor 43 is Spain’s favorite liqueur and is wholly owned by the Zamora family who safeguard the recipe and ensure the quality.  It is one of Spain’s largest exports. The Diego/Zamora family name is stamped on the cover of the bottle.

Here are some interesting recipes that I plan on trying:

For a party, try Sangria 43:

  • 1 1/2 oz Licor 43
  • 1 oz Red Wine
  • 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 oz Fresh Orange Juice
  • 1 dash Bitters

Shake well with ice into a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with oranges, apple slices and grapes.  (Sounds yummy delicious!)

This one sounds amazing too:

Forty-Thrita

  • 2 parts Licor 43
  • 2 parts Tequila
  • 6 parts Sour mix
  • 2 Orange Wedges, Juice

Shake with ice and blend until smooth.
