Rocky Horror Picture Show on Broadway Review

playbill rocky horror

Before I dive in, I have to share a little backstory. Back in high school, I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show movie practically 100 times. I’m not exaggerating. It was one of those films that genuinely changed me during those formative years — bold, weird, joyful, and completely unlike anything else. So when I heard it was coming to Broadway, there was no question. I had to be there.

Every so often, a night out reminds you exactly why live theatre is magic. That’s what happened when I caught the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Broadway. From the second the lights dimmed, I was hooked. And by the time I walked out singing to myself, I knew this one would stay with me for a long, long time.

Let me tell you all about it.

The Sets Set the Tone

The first thing that grabbed me? The sets. Absolutely amazing. They pulled you straight into that strange, wonderful world without missing a beat. Every detail felt deliberate, playful, and rich. You could tell the design team poured their hearts into it, and it paid off in spades.

A Cast That Blew Me Away

Rocky horror cast

I don’t say this lightly: the entire cast was incredible. Brilliant actors, top to bottom, giving it their all with energy that spills right off the stage and into your seat.

I came in especially excited to see Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters as Frank N. Furter. I love the band, so this was a bit of a dream for me. And wow, did he deliver. Jake was electric in the role, commanding every scene and clearly having a blast. Seeing one of my favorite musicians own a part like this was pure joy.

But he wasn’t the only standout.

  • Valentina as Columbia was a total delight, bringing sparkle and charm to every moment.
  • Kevin McHale as Brad was fantastic, playing the part with the perfect mix of earnestness and fun.
  • Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live took on the Narrator, and she was hilarious. Her comic timing had the whole theatre laughing out loud.

Honestly, there wasn’t a weak link in the bunch. The whole ensemble clicked beautifully.

The Music and Choreography

The music? Incredible. The choreography? Just as good. Together, they kept the whole show buzzing with life. I found myself tapping along, grinning, and completely swept up in the rhythm. It’s the kind of production that makes you want to jump up and dance in the aisles.

The Audience Made It Unforgettable

Here’s what makes Rocky Horror so special: the audience is part of the show. People shouted out lines, laughed together, and turned the whole theatre into one big, joyful celebration. The energy was contagious.

The best part? They pulled two audience members up onstage to do the Time Warp. Watching regular folks step into the spotlight and go for it had everyone cheering. That’s the kind of spontaneous, communal fun you just can’t get anywhere else.

Yes, the show is campy. That’s the whole point, and it embraces it fully. It’s silly, bold, and bursting with heart. If you let yourself lean into the fun, you’ll have the time of your life.

Leaving the Theatre on a High

I loved every single moment. When it was over, I floated out of the theatre still humming “Don’t Dream It, Be It,” a little smile stuck on my face. There’s something about a show that fills you up like that, one that reminds you to let loose, laugh, and just enjoy the ride.

If you get the chance to see Rocky Horror Picture Show on Broadway, don’t think twice. Grab your tickets, bring your sense of humor, and get ready to sing, shout, and maybe even do the Time Warp. Trust me, it’s worth every second.
