Soaking My Phone in White Rice By: Lisa Gordon

I am such a klutz. I attribute this to getting old, I am turning ahem…30 in just two short weeks!

Last night while walking through my kitchen with a glass of water in one hand and my cell phone in another, I dropped my smartphone and it landed in my dog, Reilly’s water bowl! I froze in horror and yelled a very loud, “OH NO!” My husband jumped from the couch to see what had happened and saw me frozen pointing at the water bowl, not moving. He lunged forward, swooped up my iPhone from the water bowl and yelled, “Give me the rice.”

It took a moment for me to understand the words coming out of his mouth. We had just gone to the grocery store and bought some white rice to make rice pudding. I grabbed the bag of rice from the pantry and threw it at him exclaiming, “The whole bag?!” as if the rice cost thousands of dollars! He shouts back, “Yes, the whole bag!” Then he’s saying, “I need a dish or a bowl.” I swing open the cupboard door and fetch him an oversized Pyrex measuring cup. He pours from rice in the container, then plops my phone down and covers it with the rest of the rice.

I am still standing there in shock. I stare at him, he stares at me and then we burst out laughing! Never a dull moment at the Gordon household. As far as my phone, we’ll see if it survives the drowning!
