TWA Terminal at JFK Turns Into a Hotel

The old TWA terminal at JFK turns into a hotel?

In Timeout Magazine, my husband and I noticed that there was an open house at the old TWA terminal building at JFK. It read, “the public is invited to attend an open house from 11 am to 3 pm.”  What else did we have to do?  So we went!

Eero Saarinen was the architecture of this midcentury modern structure, which was opened in 1962 and closed in 2001.  It’s always been the most interesting building at the airport and throughout the area.

As we approached Terminal 5, we saw hundreds of people gathered outside of the building taking photos. We noticed through the glass that there were hundreds more inside. Everyone had cameras.  It was as if the general public became paparazzi and the building was the celebrity.

I found it quite fascinating to see the architecture, feel the walls and the inside shapes and just walk around this iconic structure.

My husband and I jumped in on the action, pulled out our cameras/mobile phones and started shooting away!

The TWA Flight Center will soon be converted into a hotel at the airport.  I can’t wait to see what they do with it and look forward to my first drink under the planes at JFK!
