Unleashing the Triathlete Spirit: Conquer the Iconic Chicago Triathlon

Chicago Triathlon

As a triathlete, there’s nothing quite like the rush of adrenaline and sense of accomplishment that comes with completing a race. And when it comes to triathlons, few events are as iconic as the Chicago Triathlon.

Podcast Interview

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Allison Hubert Wilkenson, marketing manager at Lifetime Athletics in Chicago, to discuss this legendary race and what makes it such a must-do event for triathletes around the world.

About Chicago Triathlon

First held in 1983, the Chicago Triathlon has a rich history and has evolved over the years to become one of the largest triathlons in the world. The event typically takes place in August, with participants tackling a course that includes a 1.5-kilometer swim in Lake Michigan, a 40-kilometer bike ride through the city, and a 10-kilometer run that finishes in Grant Park.

When asked what sets the Chicago Triathlon apart from other triathlons, Wilkenson emphasized the city’s stunning skyline and the unique experience of swimming in Lake Michigan. “The swim course is just incredible,” she said. “You’re swimming right up against the skyline, and it’s just an amazing sight to see.”

Wilkenson noted that the Chicago Triathlon is known for being a great course for beginners because the bike is flat.

Other Races that Weekend

In addition to the main race, the Chicago Triathlon also features several shorter-distance events for athletes of all levels, including a sprint triathlon, a super sprint triathlon, and a relay race.

And for those who want to make the most of their trip to Chicago, there are plenty of other activities and events to enjoy, from exploring the city’s famous museums and architecture to trying out its renowned food scene.

Overall, Wilkenson emphasized that the Chicago Triathlon is about more than just the race itself. “It’s a whole experience,” she said. “The city really comes alive during the event, and it’s just an incredible atmosphere to be a part of.”
