A Little Taste of Paris at Cognac in Midtown

After seeing a show in midtown Manhattan, we wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been before. That’s how we found ourselves at Cognac, a cozy French spot on the corner of 57th Street and 7th Avenue in New York City.

Stepping Into Paris

The moment we walked in, I felt like we’d been dropped into a little corner of Paris. The interior is quaint and comfortable, with just the right amount of warmth. What I loved most was the space. So many restaurants in the city pack you in elbow to elbow, but here you actually have room to relax. You can hear your dinner companion, settle in, and enjoy the evening without feeling rushed or crowded.

What We Ordered

mussels

I went with the mussels and fries, and they were fantastic. The broth was rich and flavorful, the mussels were tender, and the fries were exactly what you want alongside them: crisp and golden. My husband ordered the duck, and he thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Both dishes came out beautifully prepared, and we paired our meal with a nice glass of wine each. It was one of those dinners where you slow down just to make it last.

There’s something to be said for a proper recovery meal after a hard week of workouts. Protein, good fats, and a little indulgence go a long way when your body is putting in the work. This one hit all the right notes.

The Dessert That Got Away

Here’s my one regret: we skipped dessert. We were simply too full to add another course. But as we sat there, a chocolate soufflé floated past our table on its way out of the kitchen, and it looked absolutely incredible. Warm, puffed, and clearly the kind of thing you dream about later. I’ve already decided it’s the first thing I’m ordering next time.

Let’s Talk Price

For a French restaurant in Midtown, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. My mussels came in at $28, and my husband’s duck was $38. The rest of the menu fell right around that range, so you know what you’re getting into. There were no specials the night we visited, but honestly, the regular menu gave us plenty to love. For the quality and the atmosphere, it felt like a fair deal.

Would I Go Back?

Absolutely. Cognac is the kind of place that works whether you’re celebrating a big finish line, refueling after a tough training block, or just craving a taste of France without the plane ticket. Comfortable seating, excellent food, and a warm Parisian vibe make it worth the trip.
