Closing the Doors on HJMT Public Relations Inc.: A Journey of Growth, Impact, and New Beginnings

Hilary winning lifetime achievement award

After 33 years of hard work, creativity, and countless milestones, the time has come to close the doors on HJMT Public Relations Inc. This March, I officially ended an extraordinary chapter that began in March 1992. It’s been an incredible ride filled with learning, successes, and challenges. Reflecting on HJMT’s legacy, I am grateful for the experiences, people, and work that shaped my career.

A Legacy of Achievements

Derek presenting the award to me.

HJMT was built to help clients amplify their brands and make meaningful connections with their audiences. Over the years, we have been honored to represent amazing organizations, from startups to major institutions, helping them build brand awareness and achieve their goals. Our track record speaks for itself—with a 98% success rate, our team delivered impactful results that opened doors for our clients everywhere.

One of my proudest accomplishments was seeing our clients featured in prestigious outlets like The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal, national news shows, leading radio stations, podcasts, and popular blogs. These moments weren’t just wins for our clients; they were reflections of the care, strategy, and passion we poured into everything we did.

I was an early adopter of social media and formed The Social Media Association. I also wrote two books on the subject – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media and Branding in a Digital World.

Accolades and Recognition

Throughout the years, HJMT earned a reputation as the top PR firm on Long Island. This was bolstered by incredible accolades from esteemed organizations like the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), PRPLI, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and so many others. These recognitions weren’t just about trophies or certificates; they were acknowledgments of the dedication and ingenuity that our team brought to the table.

Still, the awards were only part of the story. The relationships we built with clients, media professionals, and industry peers were the true highlights of my career. These connections taught me invaluable lessons and made every day an adventure.

The Highs and the Lows

Newsday article

Running a business for over three decades meant navigating through both triumphs and challenges. We celebrated wins that felt larger than life and faced hurdles that tested our resilience. Throughout it all, I was fortunate to work alongside incredible staff who pushed boundaries and brought their best selves to the job. They made the grind worthwhile and contributed to the incredible legacy of HJMT.

Of course, not every moment was easy, and not every experience was perfect. But even the difficult times shaped me and helped me grow as a leader, professional, and person. Every single day was a lesson, and for that, I couldn’t be more thankful.

Looking Ahead

Though I’m closing the doors on HJMT, I’m opening new ones that are just as exciting. My focus now shifts to my blogs, podcasts, and writing. I have two books set to be published in 2026, and the possibilities in this next phase of my career feel endless. I’m also dedicating my time to consulting and coaching, helping others find their paths and achieve their own versions of success.

This transition is bittersweet. Saying goodbye to a business I’ve poured my heart into is never easy. But I know this isn’t the end of my professional story. It’s a new chapter, one filled with creative endeavors, meaningful work, and fresh opportunities.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To everyone who has been a part of HJMT’s journey over the years, thank you. To my clients, collaborators, employees, and supporters, I appreciate your trust, encouragement, and belief in HJMT. You’ve been part of something special, and I carry those memories with me as I step into this new chapter.

It’s been an honor to lead HJMT Public Relations Inc. for these past 33 years. Here’s to the next adventure, and here’s to all of you who have been by my side for the ride. The best is yet to come.
