Source Mall Feels Like a Ghost Town…

The Source Mall in Westbury is more like a ghost town than anything else these days. There was a time, not so long ago, where you couldn’t even get a parking spot there.

The other night, after work, I ventured to the mall.  I enjoy going to Nordstrom Rack.  There have been times when I have found designer clothes at bargain basement prices. (That always makes me smile!)

I walked around Nordstrom Rack and didn’t see anything I wanted to buy.  So, I decided to go inside the mall and check out Off Saks.

As I walked down the long hall, passed many different stores including Nine West, The Dollar Store and the Carter’s Outlet Store, I realized that I was one of the only people there besides the people working in the stores.  Most of the workers were just standing by their entrance doors waiting for someone to visit their shop. It was a bit eerie.

Some of the stores were closed or boarded up. Many moved out of that location. It seemed as though, once Fortunoff left, the mall was doomed to fail.

As I walked out of the mall, I couldn’t help but think that I would never return.

I hope that the new mall on Old Country Road in Westbury will feel more alive!

Really is very sad.  I hope new stores will come in or the owners will revitalize the facility as an indoor recreational area.

There’s still something about touching and feeling items before purchasing. It’s like saying that there won’t be newspapers any longer. I think there is still a need for both online and offline stuff – whether it be a newspaper, a pair of shoes or a coat.  However, you’re right that everyone wants a bargain.  Maybe there needs to be some type of compromise… Not sure… Thanks for your comments…
