What is Your Travel Gnome?

What is your travel gnome?

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of traveling ducks, bears and even gnomes.  Most recently, I saw them all at the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport in Queens.

First there were the married couple ducks sitting on top of the TWA sign and then there was the lost bear looking as if a child left him abandoned. At first I didn’t realize what was going on and then when I spoke with the duck folks.  “What are you doing? Why are you photographing married ducks?” I asked.

“They symbolize us,” the couple told me.  “We take them everywhere we go and photograph them.”

When I saw the little bear and a child playing nearby, I asked the boy, “is that your bear?”

He shook his head.

20151018_145617“It’s my bear,” the grown man with the large lensed camera said to me..  “That bear has gone to 35 countries and has been the focus of my photographs.”

Wow, I never heard of this trend before.  I know about the travelocity gnome but I never saw it with other objects.  I started to do some research and found a whole website dedicated to duck travels.  I also looked on Instagram and found that Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) also does it with their bank card.

As a matter of fact, that TFCU card was watching a football game, in the city and even went to the NY Mets Game at Citi Field.  I was impressed.

I was thinking what could I take to symbolize me?  Hmmm… that’s up for debate. Any suggestions write them down in the comment section.
